Like No One Is Watching (no.3)

About the artwork:

‘Like No One Is Watching’ is a series of 3 individual original paintings showcasing the freedom of the female form.  Ink and metallic acrylics, these women dance carefree, unencumbered by gaze, but also not caring if gaze rests on them either.  The metallics in the paint catch the light as the sun shimmers and dances across their form, creating energy and a sense of movement in the piece.

Modern, sleek, and captivating design, whether own solo or in the full collection, this piece would look beautiful on any wall, drawing focus and attention through the texture work, you will find new elements to love each time you look at it.

The style is contemporary, with leanings towards the softened gaze of impressionism.

The artwork hand-drawn and painted, each of the 3 are original pieces and are signed.

About the artist:

I am a self-taught artist, I first began drawing as a self-therapy and reconciliation of myself after undergoing a double mastectomy three years ago which changed how I see the body and what female sexuality is.  I tend to be instinctive when I create and I work quickly on most pieces – I have never been the most patient of creatives.

I am also a poet and many of my pieces begin in the written word and transform onto paper or canvas. Often these pieces will be accompanied by the original written piece that inspired them.

I use layered and textured acrylic to create a visceral quality to the works and to represent emotion, which I hope makes the eye linger and search out more detail – your eye becoming your fingertips and craving touch.  It is always a journey every time I draw or paint a body it makes me hyper-aware of how the outside world categorises women’s body, as a commodity, as an object, and how social media and public platforms dictate what is and is not ‘woman’, but it is also a reconciliation between my gaze on my own changed form and that which I control with ink or paint.

My work has previously been displayed in Parallax AF, Plathoes Cave, WATWA Art Girl Rising and showcased at the MASA-UK Gallery.
