Samantha English Jewellery
Samantha designs and makes jewellery that challenges perceived perceptions about its preciousness and its perfection. She plays with form and structure to highlight the wear and damage of old, much loved jewellery. Through her making process she uses heat, etching, damage and repair. Her latest collection, Precious Imperfections explores this concept by designing pieces inspired by a ring cut from a broken finger, a broken locket lost and tied to a chain as it awaits rediscovery and a hoop earring damaged after a night on the town glistening in a neon lit puddle.
Samantha is a self taught jeweller and metal artist, who gained an MA Jewellery with Distinction in 2019. Her predominate skill set is etching metals, creating techniques to manipulate metals and applying surface treatments using techniques such as plating, patina and forced ageing and discolouration. The lines between her metal work and jewellery making are blurred and concepts travel swiftly between them.
