Little red felt brooch
Little red felt brooch – postage free for UK mainland destinations
Little red felt brooch.
This little red felt brooch is handmade in merino or bergschaf wool with glass beads for decoration.
The beads have been collected from deconstructed necklaces (sorry, they are not precious stones!) and the centre is made from a recycled/crushed coffee 'pod', giving me an opportunity to make interesting use of a product that would usually be thrown away. The pods, being crumpled, give a faceted shine to the centre adding interest and this little brooch.
I was fascinated by the coffee pods when I first came across them and I was sure I could find a way to use them! I'm not a coffee drinker, so when I decided to try crushing them I had to call on my neighbours. I hadn't expected to be given two full bags of them (sadly only in four colours, though!) Actually, recycling the pods is rather more time consuming than I'd anticipated, so I don't think there will be as many of these in the pipeline as I'd first hoped! This is certainly a piece of quirky jewellery that's also a talking point!
To be fair, I believe these coffee pods are recycled by the manufacturers if the buyer takes them to a recycling centre, but I wonder how many do. So my little felt brooches are just a (very) small contribution to lessening the rubbish mountain!
This brooch measures approximately 4.5cms diameter - meaurements for others will vary slightly, due to the variations natural to working with felt.
